Caips file - please help

It is not clear the procedure of how to apply for CAIPS file. I understand that Canadian citizen must apply for my husband (that'll be his sister), but I don't understand where she must enter hers data. The "Caips File Check Application Form" will fulfil my husband with his data (name, surname, file number, date of birth...) and second form "Individual's Consent to Disclosure must fulfil my husband with, again, his data ( name, surname, date of birth...). So at the end you will get two documents with only my husband’s data. Where his sister (Canadian citizen) should enter hers data, so you would be shore that Canadian citizen is applying (but for someone else)?

Follow the instructions below:

1. Have your husband fill out this form:

Step by step instructions:

Tick the box that says "I authorize Citizenship and Immigration Canada... ..., to release information from my case file to the following individual."

Then have your husband fill out all of his/her particulars (his/her name, DOB, location of VISA Processing centre, i.e. The Canadian Embassy in .............
Then have him/her fill out his sister'sown personal information under the headings titled "Designated Individual."

Have your husband sign AND date the form at the bottom

2. His sister now fill out this form:

Step by step instructions:

Leave the first two boxes at the top blank (Requesters Reference No. and Public Rights Administration file number).


Tick the box that says "Access to Information Act ($ 5.00 fee)."


Do NOT tick "Privacy Act" and hope they will just process it without his sister having to pay $ 5.00;. His sister must pay $5.00 since she is requesting the info on behalf of your husband, and he is not residing in Canada.

Select which language - English or French. (These choices are under the "Privacy Act" sub-heading. ).

Then tick the box which says "Receive copies of the Records."

Fill out your husband's information under the "Client Information" box.

Under the next heading, "Request for-Required Information" box, tick the "CAIPS (information abroad)" box and write "The Canadian Embassy........." under the "Embassy" sub-heading, and write the "Visa File No." in the appropriate box.

DO NOT check any other boxes in this section. Especially the "OVERSEAS VISA FILE" box. If do this, they will pull his file aside, photocopy everything and send it to her.

It will not only take him forever to get the information, but they will also take his file out of the queue to process his request and therefore it will take LONGER !!! (CAIPS is just a computer printout of all the work done on his file so far. It will not affect the speed of your file processing.

In the next heading, tick the box which says "This request is being made by a Canadian Citizen..." Fill out all of your husband's sister's information in this box, name, phone number, address, etc.

Sign and date.

3. Make out a cheque payable to the "Receiver General of Canada" for $5.00

Enclose the cheque in an envelope with the other forms, and a copy of her Canadian ID and send it to the address below:

what if I want my relative to do the whole thing electronically?

Filling out the forms, signed by my Relative and the money transfered to CIC's Paypal account. is it possible? making a draft is troublesome. time consuming.

lawpoint and other CAIPS ordering sites take orders using Paypal, they too make drafts as well?

No, you cannot do it electronically

Probably that is how it works for the third party (here lawpoint) whom you might given your authorization to access to personal info... So far I know the same paper CIC send by post, scanned and sent it to you through mail by the lawpoint (that is the reason they charge money for)

First ur relative can pay by cheque don't need to go though making bank draft hassle...

Secondly CIC always send CAIPS in paper to who it order for...then ur relative or lawpoint or anyone cld scan it and send it to u...in fact all firms do that if you choose u want to get it through email they just scan it and send it to u...

I thought there was a choice for applicants to get it from CIC either by email or snail mail or both
Now it seems they only use the snail mail system. its all paper based until the relative or lawpoint( or others) makes it digitalized.

Maybe I should get them to hold the reports up to the window, I can see their building from where I am in Ottawa.
