We applied for my brother in law's visitor visa and showed he is planning to visit is for 2.5 months.
Visa is approved and we are looking to book tickets for 5.5 month stay.
Is this going to be an issue when he comes here when he is at Immigration when he arrives at airport?

No issue. CBSA determines how long he can stay up to 6 months. If they stamp his passport with a date to leave by then he will need to leave by that date or extend his stay.

thank you :).....so even if he can stay for 6 months which is max limit he can stay, can CBSA ask him to leave in 2 months?

CBSA can ask him to leave at anytime. They can tell him he has to leave in a week. Most likely not and if he has no stamp in his passport then he can stay up to 6 months.

If he is of working age it will be tough to show why he would be able or need to visit for 5.5 months. If he is interviewed when landing by CBSA he will likely be asked for proof that he is employed in his home country, that he has approved leave for his vacation, that he has a home (rental or owned), proof that he has the funds to cover his living expenses without working, etc. Assume he may be trying to get a job in Canada. It is very difficult to find a job at the moment and employer willing to go through the LMIA process unless he have certain skills that are in demand. There are so many in Canada who are able to work who are struggling to find employment.
