We just received my permanent resident visa (family class - spouse) and are planning to land in June. I understand that personal/used household goods etc. will be tax/duty free.

We will be arriving together and there will be more goods to follow (of course we will list all those and declare them as we land)

Does it make any difference as to whose name I declare all the goods belonging to - either my husband (sponsor) mor myself (applicant)? My husband has live abroad from Canada for almost 2 years. Can I just have everything under one persons name for less paperwork?

Either of u could do... he as a 'returning resident' or u as a 'settler'.

I'm in a similar situation, only we don't intend on moving right away. The returning person, my husband, would need to do that portion when we do actually move, right? versus me doing goods to follow when I do land.

Thanks!

Sorry to jump into the conversation. But I have had this same question. I am a returning citizen as well and my husband will be landing in a few days. We are both going on 6/15 but I will be returning to finish up our move and bringing the rest of our stuff.
Others have said we have to do the form as a "family". But it is confusing since I have a cap of an individual item being $10,000 and I am really not landing until August. The car is in my name and is worth just at $10,000. How do we show the value of the car? And should we put in a family B4 form this Wednesday and then a goods to follow as a family in August?
Thanks

For us, I intend to claim our cars as part of my goods (as the immigrant) to follow so that they are never under my husband allowing him to absorb (hopefully) any new things after that.

Nope, you declare goods with you in form B4, when you land, and list goods that will follow later in form B4A. Download the forms from this site:

Sir,
I observed your similar replies in other thread/s. And thought it prudent to clarify:

The B4A isn't an independent form -- it's just an extension of the main form, ie. B4. We r required to make 2 sets of the 'same' B4 [only] - one for the GTF & the other for the GAL, both in duplicates.

As the B4 has only 8 rows for filing our goods - the B4A could be used for additional rows [if any]. Else, not required to use at all. U may like to read this:

I am not sure I was clear, that I was implying HIS goods, should be declared at a later point as returning. Like I shouldn't claim his clothes, should I? Or maybe that is what you are saying. Just want to clarify.

As I understood he and our kids, would do nothing when I do my landing formalities as they are all Canadian already.

Just wanted to mention to you that if it is both you and your spouse personal belongings on a B4 both of you must be present to clear it and have proof of status of both of you ie passport and proof of PR/citizenship. Both my husband and I went to clear our things. The B4 was in my name. The customs officer demanded to see his passport as well even though the paperwork was in my name only. She was prepared to make us drive 3 hours back for him to get his passport. She was not a nice person! She let it go but not before telling us that we should feel lucky because it was well within her right to demand his passport as well. As far as I could tell it did not say anything like that on the B4 form.

Interesting, well his belongings I did list were his clothing.
It is in my name as well but when we do move for good, he will be along as well as our kids, as technically their things are 'theirs'. ....
The guy I landed with yesterday was very nice, very very nice. Though I was not actually moving with goods. Just goods to follow.
