Hi All,

I have received my passport, and are prepared to land via Rainbow/Peace/Lewington bridge.

Even though I live in Canada (like most CEC applicants), will I be eligible to bring in tax-free goods for personal use as a "new immigrant" when I do my landing ?

I am planning to cross over to the US first and buy some stuff (probably camera gears, clothing, and maybe a small coffee table since they are cheaper in the states )

Has anyone else done this before ?

Used personal effects, yes. Newly purchased goods, no.

When you return to Canada, you may qualify for a personal exemption. This allows you to bring goods of a certain value into the country without paying regular duty and taxes, except for a minimum duty that may apply to some tobacco products.

But "Less than 24 hours - Personal exemptions do not apply to same-day cross-border shoppers."
