Bringing goods as a visitor months before resuming residency

I'm a citizen living abroad and plan to resume residency early next year.

I will fly to Canada with a few friends as visitors in a couple of months. Can I and also asks my friends to bring my used personal belongings (nothing valuables) this visiting trip? I just want to save some shipping costs later. Will I get into trouble with the customs?
