Its 27 for me too. Why are you asking?

I think Case 27 falls under Open WP , is that the concern ?

Maybe for SIN or Health Card renewal, some centres look at this info.
It should have "APR" comment on it to renew the health card.

The open WP will be issued under authority of R205(a) and will be coded as follows:

Validation Exemption Code: C-10;
NOC: 9999000
Intended Occupation: Open
Case Type: 27 – Under examination

If a medical examination has not been previously conducted in relation to their current status in Canada, or in relation to the application for permanent residence, or its result has expired, the office must impose the following conditions:

Not authorized to work in childcare, primary/secondary school teachings, health service field occupations;
Not authorized to work in agricultural occupations.
In all cases, the officer must input visible remarks on the WP, “APR Pending”. This remark, in addition to the Case Type code will ensure eligibility for continued health care coverage by the province or territory.

The reason I am asking is that if you have a work permit with a case type 27 and living in Ontario then you are eligible for the OHIP. Please look into the following:

If you are applying for Ontario health insurance coverage as an Applicant for Permanent Residence, you are required to present written confirmation from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) that you are eligible to apply for permanent residence in Canada, which may be one of the following :

  • CIC Confirmation Letter – letter on CIC letterhead addressed to the Applicant for Permanent Residence that confirms that the applicant is eligible to apply for permanent residency in Canada;
  • CIC Immigration document such as a Work Permit, Visitor Record, Temporary Resident Permit or Study Permit with note in the “Remarks Section” that indicates that you have applied for permanent residence; or
  • A Work Permit case type 27, which are issued solely to individuals who have applied for permanent residence within Canada.

The above is from the OHIP website from Questions and Answers section.

So congratulations to all those who are eligible, please go ahead and apply your OHIP card, and let us know how it go.

Alas: I am on PGWP and my case is not 27 and hence can't apply for the OHIP :'(

You are also eligible to apply for the OHIP if you have a job in Ontario that will last at least 6 months.

Read this:
you are a foreign worker who holds a valid work permit or other document issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) permitting you to work in Canada, and you also have a formal agreement in place to work full-time for an employer situated in Ontario which sets out the employer's name, your occupation, and confirmation that you will be working for no less than six consecutive months;

In my case, it is showing below stuff in my GCMS note for BOWP which I applied and got it today.

Case Type : 1
Type: WP-EXT
Case Type: 54

But, I have been using OHIO card since 2011. Now I got the BOWP but waiting for original document.

So you guys are referring that if person has case type # 27 means that they can apply for OHIP.

What about me ? I got it 54

It's either U are class 27 BOWP or have worked for last 6 months that would make U eligible for OHIP.. Either of those scenarios.
