Blegium passport enter Canada

my belgium friend came to canada visit me, and his passport was stamped with two dates on it

one was entry day which was Nov 26th, 2014, then below was hand writing Nov 25th, 2016.

Questions: 1. does it mean, he can stay in Canada until Nov 25th, 2016?

2. If he will go usa for weeks and come back to Canada again, will he lost the 2016 expire date by given the new expire date?

They did that when I landed with my work visa, did he land just as a visitor or did he apply for some other type of visa?

he is just a visitor. but it is wired that usually visotor only can stay for 6 months. never heard about 2yrs stay.

maybe mistake?
