You must first contact UNHCR and be officially recognized as refugees. UNHCR will then determine where you are resettled. They may select Canada or they may select a different country.

Thanks. Yeah we're gonna get ourselves registered. Can you tell me what would be the next step after getting registered?

Just to add, be prepared to wait. It can take quite some time (years in most cases) to gain asylum.
It would even take yeas? Already we're mentally disturbed but this news has got me startled. Okay, if it takes many years - sometimes. But can our procedure be fast? Because we've got all the evidences and documents(paperwork) with us. Kindly inform me, thanks

You have to wait for UNHRC to determine where you will be resettled. You don't get to pick - they decide for you. So you may end up in Canada or you may end up in a different country. This step in the process can take several years.

Yes - it will definitely take a few years.

No - your procedure will not be faster. It doesn't matter that you have evidence and document. Assume 2-3 years best case scenario.

Okay thanks. I want to know if is it possible that we can hire a lawyer from Canada or some other country - say USA? And I also want to know can we hire a lawyer here in Nepal?

Sure - you can hire a lawyer in Canada. However this won't speed up your case and at this point it would most likely be a waste of money to hire a lawyer. The process is still the same whether you're working with a lawyer or not. First step is to be recognized as refugees by UNHCR - so this is what you need to focus on now. The next step is for UNHCR to decide where you will be resettled - this could be to Canada or it could be to another country - you do not get to pick, UNHCR decides for you. If UNHCR selects Canada, you'll then have a 2-3 year wait for your paperwork to be processed before you'll be able to move to Canada.

I don't understand why you would hire a lawyer from the US unless you want to immigrate there.

What do you mean by neighboring country?
Actually meant that you can get stuck in the country where you claimed asylum whether in a refugee camp or living in the general population. Many refugees who want to be resettled are stuck in the country where they filed for asylum with UNHCR.
