go for short term rentals - Airbnb. Secure a job and then go for a long term rental. Also it is a bit easier to get something if you will only go for a room in a bigger apartment.
And also if you are very tight on money aiming for Toronto might not be the best idea for the first few months (high living cost compared to rather low revenue from the survival jobs)
