For taxi you need to have Canadian DL for some minimum period like 2-3 years (depend upon prov)
After that you need to give Driving exam for additional category to Drive public vehicle (taxi etc)

I assume you can earn like double in taxi compare to Jobs in Macdonald or pizza hut etc.
Plus lots of people don't pay taxes on there taxi income by under declaring them.

Dear Aquib ,

Thanks for the reply, if i got the Full G ,DL i believe i do not have to wait that period , i'm curious about the average earnings of a taxi driver , can any one help ?

it's a +1

Roughly they should get around CAD 700 ...and I don't think moms are paid anywhere in the world to take care of their kids.

How to find a survival job

1. Look, look and look. The job will not come to you, therefore you must look for the job.

* Look in the papers, classifieds.

* Look for help wanted signs.

* Look online:

http://www.canadavisa.com/career_zone/canadian-immigration-job-search.htm
http://www.jobbank.gc.ca/
http://www.eluta.ca/
http://www.monster.ca/
http://www.workopolis.com/
http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/jjj/
http://toronto.kijiji.ca/f-jobs-W0QQCatIdZ45

2. Apply, apply and apply. No use finding the job if you don't apply.

* Go to places, look ready to work, bring your CV, fill out their application form, give them your mobile number

* Do not be discouraged if you do not have the right experience for the job. They may not find anyone with the right experience, that means you have a chance.

* Also apply at large companies, warehouses, factories that did not advertise. Take a tour of an industrial neighbourhood. Get off the bus, apply, apply and apply.

This method should land you at least some job which you can start in order to survive while you continue looking for a better job.

How accurate is this calculator?

Could someone who already has a job plug in their actual figures and tell me how it lines up?

I just tried it with some arbitrary figure and it is saying that 42.5% of gross salary istax in Alberta while 52% of gross salary is taken in tax in Ontario.

I am trying to use it to plan but those figures are a bit daunting. :-\

....and when they say health care is free, now those figures really start to make sense

The more money you make, the higher the percentage is. If you are paying 50% tax, it's because you can afford it. Your broad back supports the people who can't take care of themselves. If you are ever in that situation yourself, the system will work for you too.

But if you are healthy most of your life and are talented in the art of making money then its a real waste to give it all away like that

If you are good at making money and don't want to share it with your less fortunate neighbours, then you are better off living somewhere else. However, if you live in a country with no or little social safety net, you need to make sure you have insurance that will take care of you if anything happens to you.
