Bank Account

Can someone who is building a house in Canada have a savings bank account.

I'm not building a house, but I am a visitor in Canada. I have two checking accounts and I'm eligible for a savings account. I had to go in person to the bank to apply and take my passport and Visitor Record with me. I'm American... don't know if that matters.

Thanks for your input. I´m excited with the idea to going back to Canada, and hopefully to stay this time.
