Just fyi to the helpful people on this forum, I keep following your links to the recommended HSBC Passport bank account, but I find only, at the cheapest, HSBC Advance. (I'd post the link, but get an error message saying I'm not allowed to.)

This requires racking up $25k in your first "year," and in the fine print, it actually says that if you don't start racking it up in a few months, you start getting a $25 per month fee.

I don't know why, but I really thought it would be easier than this to open up an account before moving out of the States. Hm.

HSBC is constantly changing is pricing structure, and very hungrily looking for added fees from customers. Try Royal Bank (RBC); I believe they have branches in the US.

And TD Bank has Ameritrade in the USA, and perhaps you could open an account though them.

But why open an account before coming? Just set up with your US bank that you will be able to authorize a wire transfer to you new CDN account (bank to be determined) while you are in Canada.

I wondered why the "Passport" advertisement in this forum has not yet changed to "Advance"

This website is sponsored by HSBC and still practically none of the participants on this forum not only uses HSBC but never even recommends because of their exorbitant charges.
I, personally use Business Advantage account for my company. Since the global crisis my balance is about $1500. Out that I pay $22 (!!!) every month service fee because my balance is below RMB500000=USD$73800. Now, in this crisis who would USD$73800 sitting idle in the account?

Dear HSBC, I am not insane, next item on my agenda to change the bank.

Yes these are the same things which you are sharing with us.HSBC have such type of limitations on applying visa from their platform. It is really tough policy for the people who are interested to apply visa from there.
