Could someone please tell when the background are usually done, is it before medical request or after? The officer told me in the letter that the initial assessment has been completed, I did the medical, paid the pr fees and still waiting for the ppr..

Hi,

This question is answered several times before. The Background check is completed before they send the medical, the security checks remains (conducted by Canadian Security & Intelligence Services - CSIS) and completed after medicals are passed. Between Medical and PPR lies the Security Check and it may take 1 to 2 months (this is a guess looking at others, its not a scientific number).

I did not know that the security checks take place after medical. This must be the reason some cases take longer than others after the medical is done to get the ppr. It looks like security checks take longer to conduct in some countries than others and this might be one main reason for the delay.
