Your case is self explanatory, you already have an inkling as to why they are taking their time to review your file. No worries, whenever they are through with their checks and background reviews, they must move on with your file. I trust you will be waiting for them, all the best.

The information given in this thread is not related to Express Entry at all, right? The timeline of 12-20 months given for Background check as per this thread can't be applicable for EE anyway. Is there any thread for EE Background checks?

The thread was originally started by qorax explaining the background checks process in 2010. There was no EE back then. But the processing time is shortened which might mean CIC does things in parallel. I dont expect other things to have changed.

The last page or so has posts in 2015 with people posting their notes. All applications submitted in 2015 are express entry so i would assume all info from those posts are for EE.

But certainly 12-20 month estimates won't be about EE and i haven't seen a recent post saying that.

Dear Forum members,

I raised CSE 4 days back and received reply, this time background checks are on going. what does that mean. Does that mean security checks or employment verification? Although I have submitted my tax returns, salary statement etc.. with application and in August received request of company tax returns which I sent in August, since then nothing and now they said background checks going on and this is lengthy process we can not give any time frame. please share your experience over this. I haven't received MR yet.

Regards

If you have not received your medical yet, then your application is still in the process of document background checks which consists of banks, employment verifications etc etc.
If you travel history and you also submitted those countries pcc thus therefore security will also add.
Security checks usually takes place after the medical. I have completed my medical 3 months ago and I am in the queue of Security background checks since I have worked in different countries. My pcc from these countires were asked after the medical requests. Good luck..

What about PCC requested before MR. I got three countries PCC request but no MR yet. CIC replied this upon raising a CSE in October.
" Awaiting submission of FBI reports for further processing"

On Dec 31st 2015. My final PCC's reached. Still awaiting MR.

My eligibility and criminality were passed 4 months ago, now file is in security screening and my VO has not issued MR yet so it depends on VO as when to issue MR..

Dear gsinghbal and Nekeol,

I appreciate your reply. Thank you both

What does this mean "application is under background check review, shall contact once ready to communicate further requirements or final decision"

My medicals are complete and RPRF paid.

Is this security screening they speak of? I have not been asked to submit updated PCC so far, had submitted with application in 2014 december

Is it from Warsaw VO this reply? This is a standard reply.don't think too much about it. I have seen many replies like this in MR waiting group. I believe u are waiting for PPR. They are probably doing security BG checks.

Security & Criminality Checks:
A part of the b/ground checks is the 'Security Check'. It commences after our med results are submitted to the CHC. This is a major activity -mainly concerning our 'safe inclusion' into the Canadian Soil; vis-a-vis, Political, Socio-Econmical, Anti-Social disposition, perceived Threat to Canada's integrity etc. This gets us the SDEC, CDEC & SECCRIM.

This is a serious & time-consuming stage, involving many agencies, including CSIS, Interpol, NASC, Database Checking & touch-base with Local Police. Many things are considered here... the No. of countries visited, Applicant coming from 'certain' countries, ex-Servicemen [including Law Enforcement services], Prolonged stay in a country w/out sufficient docs to prove cause, frequent traveling to certain nations, your *Name (?), Inter-Religion/Nationality Marriages etc.

If everything is simple & straight, the file soon gets into the 'final review' stage. If there are any 'red flags', our case goes into a 'spin'. Then our file might go to the local Police/CID agencies; the outcome/timeframe of which is beyond the control of CIC. And thereby the timeframe can be anything [sometimes beyond 1yr]. But, usually this stage should be over by 5 months max. However, a point to be noted is that we can also be called for an Interview [at this stage], due to this reason.

-Culmination: Only upon security clearance we receive the PPR.
-Timeframe: Around 2-6 months. Avg. 3 months. [With new system, sometimes PPR is clubbed with Meds]
-eCAS: Still 'In Process', but 'Med Results Recd.' inside.
