Hi there ,
My situation is that am a New Zealand citizen and my wife is from Syria and we are here on a visit visa visiting our friend in Ottawa -Canada ,am worried because of my wife might deliver our baby here in Canada ,so will the baby obtain the Canadian citizenship /passport?!,please try to give me the relief answer as per the 2016 Canadian law.

Yes - the baby will be a Canadian citizen automatically.

Please are you sure of that

Yes - I am.

You can research it yourself if you don't believe me: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/rules/

FYI - while your child will be a citizen, there will be no benefits to yourself or your wife. You will still be visitors to Canada who will be obligated to leave Canada at the end of your stay.

Because the people we visit said law do changed

Anyone who said that doesn't understand citizenship law.

Rather than posting the same question again and again - research it yourself.

No problem we are not after any benefit but this may entitle my baby dual citizenship status since am from newzealand

Unless you are a diplomat, then your baby is a Canadian if born in Canada. However, you and your wife will still be considered visitors and have to leave the country as originally notified, unless you apply for an extension.
