LANDED..........
05-02-2015 Finally
Ok, I'm going to land in the next day or so. Finally. After all the trouble I've had, I'd really like to get it done as smoothly as possible. My question is since I'm not bringing anything with me when I land, what form do I use? The B4 form confused me a little as it has a 'goods to follow: yes or no' section. It seemed to me that has to be a separate form but I'm not bringing anything with me at my landing. It also says if I have more goods later than listed, they have find it and amend it. I know of three big things ( furniture type stuff and maybe some clothing) that are coming later as my husband is in an apartment so I'm not bringing any household stuff as it's here already. Most of my stuff is already here that I'd like to have here as shared property bought in Canada or brought with me when I visited ( laptop, Nintendo, books, some clothes, etc.)

Do I need a different form than the B4 for the goods to follow? Also, do I have to itemize my clothing right down to how many socks and underwear I have and/or may be bringing in the future? I'm not sure exactly what I'm bringing as I have to go through my things stored at my parents' house. I've read it a few times on the CBSA website and the form itself, and I can't quite figure it out. I really don't want to spend two hours at the border for them to go through everything, with a six month old. Once or even multiple times. Thanks in advance. I really feel stupid asking but I've had quite a few problems and it's been a long road. So I'd rather play it safe than sorry.

if you are only bring a small amount of personal items at landing, then you don't need a b4 landing form for items you are bringing with you. if you have some items you wish to bring over at another time (ie: furniture), then you will want to fill out a b4 form and check the "goods to follow" box. that simply means you plan to bring this stuff over at another time, and you want to be exempt from paying duty.

if you plan to bring more than just 1-2 suitcases at landing, then you will need to fill out 2 b4 forms. 1 for items at landing and 1 for goods to follow. no, you don't have to specify every single item you are traveling with, and CBSA is hardly going to go through every single belonging and match the items to your list. it takes as long as it takes the officer to ask you about what you are bringing, type it into the computer, print out a receipt and hand it to you. if you have 2 suitcases of clothes, then you write "2 suitcases of clothes" and assign a value. if you are bringing 2 boxes of books, then you write "2 boxes of books" and assign a value. for furniture, you can describe the item and assign a value. if you are bringing large electronics, list the serial number. etc, etc, etc.

Awesome, I'm basically flag poling, since I'm already on visitor's status in Canada, with my husband and son ( Canadian citizens) in the car with me. I'm bringing nothing then but later I'll have a couple suitcases of clothes, likely some CD's and a couple furniture items that my father handmade ( he gave me a value but they were gifts to me some 10-15 years ago). when I filled the form out, I just checked the 'goods to follow' box with all that stuff listed but like I said, I'd rather play it safe than sorry.
