Avoid January 4 delivery?

I was hoping to get our outland spousal sponsorship application submitted before the end of the year but things haven't gone as smoothly as I would like so won't be ready to send until this weekend. If I overnight the package, it would arrive on January 4, 2016. I just recently came across a post about the parent/grandparent program opening up for applications on January 4. It sounds like hundreds or maybe thousands of people will be having their parent/grandparent applications delivered January 4. So my questions are:

1) would you recommend I have my spousal application arrive January 5 to avoid the rush of applications on the 4th? I'm worried about mine getting lost or misplaced with the parent/grandparent applications and not looked at for months. However maybe I am just being paranoid and unnecessarily delaying my application further in an already long process.

2) will my spousal application be slowed down at all by all these parent/grandparent applications? The address is the same so not sure if the initial processing is common to both.

3) just to confirm if sending by xpress post I use the courier address?

Thank you for your help

1. No. Have it delivered on the 4th.

2. No

3. No, that's only for true couriers, like FedEx, UPS, etc. Since Express Post is Canada Post, use the other address.

Assume the cap is going to be reached on Jan 4th. Your application needs to arrive that day - preferably early in the morning.

The OP is preparing a spousal sponsorship application, so there will be no cap to worry about.

Personally I would send it a day or two later just to be safe - one day won't make a huge difference in what's going to be a several month long wait. But I could be wrong.

Are you sure? I'm pretty sure I used Xpresspost and used the courier address.

Also I'm probably just paranoid but I would wait a couple of days as well.

Well...I'm not 100% sure, but when we used Xpresspost, we sent it to the regular address.

Canada Post is not a courier, so it made sense at the time. :)

Well couriers (AKA Fedex, UPS) don't deliver to a PO box which is why they have to have a separate address. Xpress post will I believe, but not sure about Priority Courier (that's the courier equivalent for Canada Post).

Just mark your application envelope/box clearly as spousal.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will wait an extra couple of days to be safe. It will give me more time to triple check everything although at this point I just want it out of my hands and to be done.

Regarding xpress post I assumed it had to go to the courier address because of the signature option. Not sure how that would work at a PO Box. Does anyone know for sure which address to use? Is it a problem to send a non-courier to the street address? That seems to me like the safer option if no one knows for sure.

Thank you!

When I sent mine by fed ex I asked the same question. Ponga answered my question, I sent it and it was the correct address.
