Authorization letter to carry India passports out of India

Hi,
I want to send my passport for Canadian Visa stamping with a friend who is travelling to USA. Anybody, please help me in finding the answers to the following questions:

1. Do I need to send a letter of authorization with friend who is carrying my passport? Where can I find the format? Only my signature would do?

2. Is it permitted to courier Indian passports from North America (US/Canada) back to India?

1. Yes you need a letter of authorization that you authorize xxx to carry your passport and outline what you want him/her to do with it. Have it notarized.
2. No courier company will courier an Indian passport to India.
