Gday from Australia,

This is the scenario:
I have a job lined up with a Canadian employer
I will hope to start in February 2009
I have a passport
I have recently finished my university degree and DONT have one years work experience
I want to work in canada for more than one year, with a work permit.

The Questions:
Can I apply to work in canada for more than one year? with a work permit?
I am from Australia so i dont need a TRV, yes?
is it true that you have to renew a work permit after 6 months?

Thanks

Tim

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
You can apply for a work permit for 1-2 years depending on your contract. Maybe you can even get a longer one, most people I know come for 1 or 2 years and then extend.

You don't need a TRV if you are from Australia.

If you get a work permit that is valid for 1 or 2 years, you will not have to extend it every 6 months beause it is still valid.

to save you from all the hassle just apply for WHP http://www.whpcanada.org.au/introduction.shtml
valid for 24 months. Processing is fast, 10days from sydney office.
you can extend the same as per new rules. until last year it wasn't extendable.

since you would be staying more than 90 days(in north america), if you come via Honolulu,USA you would need a transit visa(a hundred buck or something). If you want to make things even more easier avoid going to states, fly via taiwan or japan and straight into vancouver. That way you could spend that money on Tim Hortons instead. USA is pain in the rear all the time.
