If I get scheduled for in-person ceremony, would it be possible to change it to e-certificate at the ceremony?
At the in person ceremony, they hand you paper certificate immediately after (i hear they have paper certificates 'ready to go' for all attendees).
Based on other's posts here,
For in-person ceremonies, I believe (
not 100 % sure) that, during the id check before the oath, you can request the officer to give you an e-certificate instead of the paper one (if you prefer that). However, you'd have to wait for it to become available for download on the portal (can take a few hours to a few days). So in this case, the paper would be faster if its 'in person', if you're in a rush to go apply for a passport.
If you get a virtual ceremony, i believe (
again, not 100% sure) that, during the break off room/ID check stage, the officer will ask what type of certificate you want or you can ask them and specify 'e-certificate'. The sooner you send back the signed oath form following all the instructions once the ceremony is over, it might help to get the e-certificate available on the portal for download quickly. In this case, if you specifically ask for a paper certificate, then it'll be obviously be 'by mail' so slower (not sure how long).
