I don't see any updates on my tracker and feels so disappointing to see the wait since last 2+ years . It's a mental torture for sure.

Hi all August 2025 applicants! Just want to share that I finally received updates on my tracker (it's broken, but after setting the time back to Nov 10 and re-logging in, I was able to see all the updates). My background check was completed on Nov 7, prohibition was completed on Nov 13. Oath is scheduled for Dec 15.

I have been waiting for the security/background check since Nov 2023. It took 2 years. Good luck to all of you.

Wow. Congrats. Do you happen to know why were you stuck for 2 years?

That's awesome!!

Did you happen to see the Nov 7 update prior to the Tracker shutting down, (it seems the tracker stopped working on Nov 10)

Also, did you just wait or also sent in any inquiries alongside?

I requested notes from CBSA and IRCC a few times. It showed that my case was under screening by CSIS. Though I had dozens of cross-border trips in the last 3 years, I think the main trigger was related to my previous employer in my home country before I became a PR in 2020. It was in the list of institutions causing sensitive technology concerns. I was an instructor in Linguistics back there, but it did affect my case.

Thanks!

I checked the tracker every day. The last time I logged in was Monday or Tuesday (Nov 10-11), but the Nov 7 update was not shown on my tracker.

I requested GCMS notes a few times and sent emails to my local MP twice in 2024. They told me there's nothing they can do to expedite the process, so I decided to just wait.

OCT 2023 AOR here and stuck in Security. I am in touch with two other applicants with the same timeline and in the same boat. My PR screening was not intensive, and my opinion is it should have been more complex than citizenship. I do not know what caused my citizenship file non-routine when the PR was straightforward. I was in Australia on a work permit and PR was not approved due to a faulty employer, before I moved to Canada based on a spousal sponsorship. If that was the trigger, it should have happened at the time of PR application as well. I think it's just random

What you say is logical but unfortunately, I don't think it's entirely true - there does seem to be a 'higher bar' for citizenship clearances than for PR - which may not make sense from a risk perspective.

I think there are two different things, one - a perception that citizenship is 'more' permanent and can never be revoked (not exactly true, but it has proven incredibly rare for govt to be able to revoke citizenship, so almost impossible); and two, things that are written categorically in law as prohibiting citizenship, whereas the (messy) reality is that for some things, the govt may never be able to get enough information to be certain either way (and the law provides no guidance on risk and trade-offs) - and in many many cases there is close to zero likelihood that they could get enough 'evidence' that they could use in a legal proceeding (esp if information is from abroad and esp third-party sources abroad).

Now note, I'm not saying any of these apply to your specific case - but that if they're checking 'complex cases' for other applicants, it can make the queue longer and slower.
