I so understand this too! I can work but we're temporarily living in a small town without any prospects for me or access to a vehicle for me to drive (kind of petrified to drive in the snow and ice on the wrong side of the road and car anyway haha) makes it difficult to work :(

The last time we were living here in Canada we lived in a city and I worked and had friends and kept pretty busy. It definitely makes a difference settling into a new place and helps when you start to miss home :)
Yeah, I don't have a car either and not sure how I will handle driving in the snow/ice once I do get a car. I am scared of that too.
I do volunteer twice a week, but I take the bus. In the Winter I don't always make it in. It's no fun walking to the bus stop in freezing cold weather and snow & ice all over the place. Lol

It's been really hard losing some of my independence and being alone a lot, but I know it's not forever. I am looking forward to all the changes that getting PR will bring.

Oh I know all about waiting in the cold for bus, where we lived it was always more than 40 min late in the winter! I'm lucky that my bfs family decked me out in the best winter gear to keep me warm cos coming from a hot country I had no clue about any of it haha my winter jacket for Aus is just a rain coat! I think losing some independence is honestly the hardest part for me, I've always been a very independent person but I know its not for long.. Its nice to know there are other people that understand :)

Yes!! I had to go shopping for some good Winter boots, a puffy Winter coat, mittens & hats. I have to say that everything kept me very warm last Winter. (my first Winter in Canada)
I can understand that about your Aus Winter jacket. Lol Being from California I never had to wear big warm marshmallow puffy coats. LOL Heck, we could still wear flip flops in the Winter. Ha!!

Yes, I have always been a very independent person. I have always made my own way in life. On my worst days I feel less of a person and some of my zest for life has fizzled. I don't drive much so I have lost some of my confidence in driving. I am kind of afraid to drive on the freeway. Sad huh?

I am hoping to get back to feeling like myself again, I miss me. Ha!!
It is very nice to have a group of people going through some of the same stuff.

Smiles!!

HI Guys,

hope some one could give us some info!

We sent off an application in August 2015 and got the sponsorship approval October 2015, the medicals were done upfront.

Since then the ecas has shown "in progress" and we ordered the GCMS Notes which we got today.

So far under application status is says open & application status reason is in progress, medicals says passed, & under security and assessments it say not started.

Is this normal? looks like they haven't even touched the application after the sponsor was approved.

Thanks

Hey everyone :)

I know waiting for the bus in the snow especially when it's windy is the worst.

I found this thread below, for those who are intending to move to Ontario and are already here. It seems like we are eligible for OHIP coverage (health insurance) but it takes a bit of work. If you guys wanna have a look, as it seems that most of you are getting approved very fast :)

Good luck :)

Good luck :)
I've heard good luck stories and bad luck stories on obtaining OHIP while in process for Outland PR. I went to the federal service Ontario near me and tried but was told I can't even apply. I called and was told I could. It seems after all my research you can apply, probably will be denied and can appeal. Once you appeal OHIP will contact CIC to see if your app is past what they consider "approved" and then you can get OHIP. That being said with an Outland app the point that OHIP sees as approval comes right before actual DM so it's pretty far in the PR process. It could however save the waiting time of 3 months after landing. From what I'm told is to wait to apply closer to when you think you'll be near DM (by watching spreadsheets of others applying going thru same VO).
I'm not expert but since I've been in Canada so long now not working I have lots of time on my hands to research and call :)

I'm going to wait until some more July VO Ottawa applicants get DM or new photo request before I actually apply for OHIP, I'm hoping it can save me the 3 months of wait time after landing.
I'm lucky that my husbands insurance just finally added me so now I only need to pay for dr visits and not prescriptions here. For 15 months I paid for my US insurance while living in Canada at $456/month US.

Nothing new for me to report.. 2 Sydney applicants that were a month and 2 months after me have already got COPR.. Kind of disconcerting :(
