Yeah I am hoping for a quick move on that too. Though I just found out some bad news. Since my car is still being financed and the title will not be in my name, a copy of the title will not allow me to export my vehicle. Bleh.

The finance company didnt have any issues with it. They were going to give me a letter of permission and copy of title of the vehicle so that I could transport it into Canada permanently.
Youch, I sold my car before I came to Canada as it seemed like a hassle for me. Good luck on getting it imported.

It will work out. I am just happy that my CoPR came in :D.

Also is this the correct B4 form?

http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/forms-formulaires/bsf186a.pdf

I went to this website and the link that claims to be the B4 form is broken. I left feedback but that won't help me.

I asked the same sort of questions when I landed and the CBSA agent said don't worry so much we will figure it out when you do come with your stuff. I really only have personal stuff to bring like photos and misc stuff, just a car load. When I decided to come to Canada I sold almost everything or gave it away.

Yeah, I am glad I don't have a lot to bring. I want to bring the bed frame and computer desk and give it to my girlfriend. We could really use a nice bed frame. As for everything else its just random computer stuff, dvds, and clothes. Just wish the car wasn't so complicated.

Alright after asking in the Settlements Issues section of the forums I found that I will be able to export my lien hold vehicle with a Letter of Permission. It is noted on the US Customs and Border Protection website and on the automated phone system. The border patrol themselves don't really know, and when I talked to them the guy had no idea and kept asking another officer and that officer was just annoyed that the other officer kept asking questions that he probably didn't have answers to. OH well. It is a relief to know I can still export and import my car.

Since my car is the only means for me to travel, and it is still insured through a US company...will there be any issues driving it into the US get my stuff and head back to Canada and take advantage of the 6 months allowed to drive it in BC? And deal with the export/import later like something to follow me into Canada later :p.

CoPR received in the mail today! WOOT!

Question: Can I apply for a SIN now or after I landed? I'll call Service Canada and find out. But figured I would ask here first :D.

Timeline:

Family Sponsorship (Outland Application)
Sent Application: July 31, 2015
Application Rec.: August 4, 2015
Sponsor Approved: October 1, 2015
PR Application Rec.: October 1, 2015
Statutory of Declaration for Common-Law Doc Req. Rec.: January 4, 2016
Statutory of Declaration for Common-Law Doc Sent: January 29, 2016
Fingerprint for Background Check, Canada Req.: February 15, 2016
Fingerprint for Background Check, Canada Sent (Electronically): February 18, 2016
CoPR documents sent from Ottawa: April 27, 2016
CoPR documents received: May 4, 2016

Total Months: 9 months exactly, from application received by Ottawa to CoPR received.
Items that may have effected the time frame:
- Fingerprinting for Canada and Statutory of Declaration.
- Medical Exam completed upfront
- All fees paid the day we completed the application.

Now to fill out forums, prep for export/import of my finance car, drive back to get things sorted, and get landed.

Quite the adventure.

Baffled
Hi :) you have to get landed first. It seems that you can do it at the airport too if you are landing there. Otherwise the next day you can just go to service Canada, they will give you your sin number immediately, just a bit of waiting time there :) Happy landing :)

Well, the rules depend on where you are a resident...

...the following persons are exempt, for the period specified, from the requirements respecting the holding of a driver's licence issued to him or her under this Act:

(a) a person who has a validly issued and subsisting driver's or operator's licence or permit issued according to the laws where he or she is ordinarily resident, for 6 months from the date he or she last entered British Columbia;

(b) a person who has become ordinarily resident in British Columbia and who has a validly issued and subsisting driver's or operator's licence or permit issued according to the laws of the jurisdiction where he or she was most recently ordinarily resident, for 90 days after he or she became ordinarily resident in British Columbia;
...is exempt from the requirements to register and license the motor vehicle or trailer under this Act, if

(d) the owner or operator of the motor vehicle or trailer is in British Columbia for, and uses the motor vehicle or trailer for, touring purposes only, for a period of 6 months, or

(e) the owner or operator of the motor vehicle or trailer is in British Columbia for, and uses the motor vehicle or trailer for, other than touring purposes, for a period of 30 days
http://www.bclaws.ca/civix/document/id/consol5/consol5/96318_01

So once you are a permanent resident, the period allowed for not having a BC driver's license changes from 6 months to 90 days, and the period for not having the car registered changes to 30 days. In other words, you need to import in 30 days.
