Can you please tell me if it is allowed to attend school while here on a visitors visa awaiting PR while being sponsored?

Basically, no, you cannot attend school without a study permit. However, in some provinces it is mandatory that minors attend school, regardless of their immigration status. CIC will give you a bad time about that, too, though. In order to be in compliance with their requirements, you have to have a study permit to attend school - especially as an adult, and it's also recommended if you're enrolling a minor.

I wonder if the same applies to online schooling? You might be able to check into that. You obviously need not be physically living in a specific location in order to access the courses. When I get PR and move up to Canada, I'll still be finishing a degree program through an online university in The States.

I think one thing you can try doing is apply for a Study Permit. Sometime you may be lucky to get it providing that you can show CIC proof of your intentions of attending school.

I am not 100% sure of this but I also think you are allowed to study in Canada for a period of 6 months without any legal authorizations by CIC.

Maybe someone can give you more information on this. It's still worth trying for sure :)

I was granted a study permit in Canada after my Refugee, PRRA, and H&C applications were rejected. Mind you, I still have to leave when CBSA decided to remove me. The pro to this was I got to study for about 11 months before having to leave Canada.

Immigration Canada is a very strange system and sometimes the things we think wouldn't work for us end up being reality.

Good luck!

thank you.. I looked at your progress .. can you tell me the steps you took Did you apply for a visitors visa at the start? did you get married in Canada?? Did you apply for Outland and did you stay in canada while waiting for your PR? Did you attend school while waiting? We are not sure which is the best way to go and there is so many different ways to attempt this so we jsut want the best, fastest way like everyone.. thanks again

You can study in a program that is less than six months without a study permit if you are a visitor. Any program longer than that requires a study permit. You will be required to pay international student rates. Online/distance study may be a good option to study without a permit and perhaps get a break on the costs. Can't say for sure about the costs because it would depend on the school

There are special considerations given to refugee claimants that do not apply to anyone else when it comes to study and work permits.
