After 27 days from submitting my ATIP request to CBSA, I received an update on the status of my security screening. I'll write here what I did in case anybody else, whose case was referred to the IRB, wants to enquire about the status of their fess.
1- go to this link:
https://atip-aiprp.tbs-sct.gc.ca/
2- Select "My personal information" for the type of records you are requesting.
3- Select CBSA as the agency that you would like to submit your request to.
4- Fill out the request form and try to clearly state that you would like an "update on the status of your front end security screening". I included other details like my BOC submission date and date of referral to the IRB.
5- Upload your Refugee Claimant ID document as your ID.
6- Submit your request. Please note that you don't need to pay since you are requesting a record pertaining to your personal information.
From there, it's just a matter of waiting. Typical wait times for responses to ATIP requests are 30 calender days. But they also note on their website that it might take longer if they need to retrieve larger records.
When you get your response, you will find an attached file. It will be a long report, but on one of the pages you'll find a section called "ASSESSMENTS". It will have different categories of your background check which include security HIRV, criminality, etc, and it will show whether each is in progress, not started, or completed.
And, yes, some information will be redacted and that is completely normal given that these files contain highly sensitive information. So no need to worry about the redactions.
I hope this brings some clarity. And for all of you who are in need of protection and have been waiting, I hope you hear back soon, gain the stability you dream of, and get reunited with your loved ones soon. Even though our circumstances differ, I know, from personal experience, that the wait could take a big toll on our mental and physical health. Please try to take care of yourself and surround yourself with good people that can support you through these difficult times. This too shall pass.
