Hi All,
I am shifting careers in Egypt to java development, working as one for about 6 months now. My wife an myself are applying for FSW 2014 (She is the primary applicant). So, until we arrive there (hopefully), what should I focus on to improve my chances? I am currently having the knowledge equivalent to Oracle Associate Java Programmer (but not certified), some servlet programming and some JSF. I know some sql (Basically the good old MySQL). My work is primarily focused on creating a web application (on tomcat) to handle a wireless sensor network nodes for the purposes of automation and energy conservation. In addition to Java I have have used C, php, html, css...
What is the best ways to invest in my knowledge for the time until my arrival to Canada? Here is what I was thinking of:
- Getting the Oracle Java certifications (certifying and expanding my knowledge)
- I have an opportunity to work with IBM Messaging Broker (could get about 3 months of experience before leaving Egypt)
- Trying to get some sort of an internship or training with Canada based software company (sort of work for free in exchange for some Canadian experience/standard and challenging work through which I can increase my knowledge)
- Put some focus on studying database system (e.g. get an Oracle database certification or something similar)
- Focus on JSF, JavaScript, CSS 3, HTML5, etc.
- Shift to Android development
I am really very eager to invest time and effort into building a new life in my soon to be my home and native land. I just want to do the most efficient effort that would yield best results. I am still beginning, so I have so many choices and I need to focus on one.
Before shifting careers to Java development, I worked as a freelance translator, Arabic tutor and research assistant. However, since most of my work was with non-Egyptians and they are no longer come to Egypt (at least not the same numbers). I decided to shift to something more technical, since I am an Electronics and Communication Engineer by graduation
