On the Document Checklist (Spouse or Common-Law Partner in Canada) one of the items requested is an Original Police Certificate, there's a note to refer to Appendix A. Which is a link to a generic form you are supposed to fill in with details and mail off to the relevant authorities to fulfill. It says the applicant must submit police checks from each country they've lived in for over 6 months in the past 10 years with their PR application.
That form is kind of useless since it doesn't specify who to give it to and many countries have formalized procedures for that sort of request and we need checks from THREE different countries (France, Canada and the UK).
Now, the Government of Canada's website gives you direction on how to get the check on a country by country basis. On the top it says it is necessary for Permanent Residency applications. Great! Except on the Canada specific page, it says it's not necessary!! Is that because it is not necessarily assumed the application is coming from IN Canada? In this case my partner has lived in Canada for 12 months, I'm assuming he needs one because that's long enough time to get into criminal trouble.
It says you don't need a police certificate but you do need a criminal record check - sure but then that is from the RCMP and requires fingerprints. So am I right in believing my partner will need a police certificate from France and the UK and a criminal record check from Canada (RCMP) plus a set of electronic fingerprints?
I honestly rather send this all now as a part of the application rather than wait for them to come back and ask for it. That's reasonable right? What is everyone elses experience with this?
Thanks in advance,
