Today I took the citizenship oath. The ceremony was really special and it felt so nice to become a new Canadian alongside others in my community. It was especially cool to see families with kids becoming citizens!

Wishing for a speedy end of your applications for those of you in the end stages. Thank you to everyone here for keeping me sane and also keeping me company in the wait. Might be back when I apply for a passport (not imminent - no travel plans yet) but for now - cheers and bonne chance :)

(PS, do practice the French* oath and bilingual anthem for predominantly English ceremonies! You might be asked to do the oath in both languages if you can)
Congratulations!! Were you able to bring all your family and friends to the ceremony?

Got an email this morning for a virtual citizenship ceremony scheduled for Oct 16th. It says the ceremony can be 1 hour and 30 minutes long approximately. Does anyone know long do these generally last? I have an important work meeting that day so I need to advise my manager about how long I'll be stepping away for.

Thank you! And yes I was!! My local office finally replied to my email a day before the ceremony confirming that there was no limit on attendees, but seating was limited. I'm glad because I was able to get some pics with the judge and everyone who came to witness the oath, which was such a special moment to share with them
