If you are the sponsor: No. The list of ID for the sponsor is very clear. You choose one from the list. There is no specification to submit the long form birth certificate. For me, I was born before February 15, 1977, so my birth certificate card would be fine, however, I chose to submit my current passport as my ID (plus my older passport bio-date pages as well). You needn't worry about it, you're fine.

If you are not the sponsor: Yes. You need to provide your birth certificate. There is no mention of a long form birth certificate as being a requirement. My wife had her Chinese birth certificate translated and notarized. I have no idea if it was the long form or not, and I have no clue if they even have such a distinction in China.

Why didn't your husband provide his birth certificate?

I cant believe there was no update yesterday. Is it wishful thinking to hope for an update on stage 1 today?! What does everyone think?

They are playing their favorite game again let's see how long we can make them wait before updating and then let's not put the correct amounts of days to give them false hope!

He only has his BC Birth Cert Card, its like a credit card size thing. His parents in Canada have retained his paper one. I don't understand why but there seems an unwillingness to relinquish it. He was born in 1970, you mentioned something about this?
This is not our first problem. We originally sent off Applications for PR for myself and all 5 children, after being advised to do so by the Canadian High Commission in London ??? Leon recognised that this was a mistake as the children are already classed as Citizens and just need Proof of. So we then hurriedly sent of the Proof apps and wrote a letter to Missisauga explaining the mistake and hoping they wouldn't void my Application as well?!
We had wrongly paid $1795 for Applications, £700 in unnecessary Medicals, and £100 in photos. We should get a return on some of the Application fees, but the rest is gone.
A very expensive mistake, could have had a solicitor for what we wasted!!!

You can order the long form birth certificate on line at vital service Canada, I have done it, it doesnt take very long and I beleive it costs $40.00, hope that helps :) Oh and each province has a different website, here is the service canada page with links:

Rosie, don't stress about the PR app being sent back. That probably would have happened already if they were missing something... like Fencesitter said, if they didn't specify the long-form birth certificate, then it wouldn't be necessary. I think most Canadians only have a wallet sized one.

I understand the frustration you feel with your husband, I told mine to make sure he had ALL the forms before he sent them to me.... and of course, the day I went to mail the app away, I went through everything and he was missing the Background Declaration form.

Sadly, I have a feeling that it will be longer than 90 days to get approval. I am predicting a late July or early August approval and my app was received on April 13. I hope I am wrong...

I don't see how they can finish March within the month of June. It seems it takes more than 6 weeks to complete any given month of apps...

Hi, my husband and i are thinking of me going to Canada since I have a TRV and wait for the PR visa together there.
What do you guys think of this?
I personally think there's no issue with this in terms of the processing of the application. But we need to change our mailing address to the new one in Canada when we do this. Any advice on this?
Thanks!
