Hi Gavi,

Please can you check the Checklist of your CHC? Where would you be sending your application to?

My answer is based on the Buffalo requirements. I am quoting from the Buffalo checklist:
Provide:

• Original letters from your bank and other financial instituitions confirming the type and current balances of account you hold.
  • copies of monthly bank statements showing deposits and withdrawls for 6 months prior to the submission of your application
  
  Is it same for your CHC regarding POF? or do you just have to produce the statement with "Current balance"?
  
  If you were to follow the checklist it states clearly that you have to show deposit and withdrawl for 6 months and this is the reason I was concerned about the deposit of a big amount. This is where the "risk of borrowed money arises". Also beware that CIC conclusively mentions that the money should not be borrowed. Even though in real life that does not happen .... we do borrow money.
  
  The final desicion is yours..... I can only suggest.

My Visa office is London. According to their checklist they only state that their requirement is "Bank Certificate stating Current Balance"

In addition i have a life insurance policy of 6 lakh IND Rupees expiring in 2012, can i show this as POF?

Refer to the "Proof of Funds" section of our Web site for exact figures and instructions.
Provide proof of unencumbered and readily transferable funds in a convertible currency available for settlement in Canada (for you and your family members):
•current bank certification letter; or
•evidence of savings balance; or
•fixed or time deposit statements.

Hi All,

I have tried to check my application online today via CIC website and finally i found my name and a massage saying that my apllication was recieved on 16 April. it seems that they really update the application status every tuesday.

I see it is another positive sign.

it seems that people that submitted after me have started receiving their AOR despite my visa card being debited earlier than theirs. i called CIO last week and the person that picked told me that i would hear from them within four weeks. having applied earlier on (pre Feb 2008) i used my old immigration file number to check my status online and saw two applications logged in for me. the old one says in process while the new one says application received. i made some mistakes (shortfall of $100 on my proof of fund and missed out filling some details on my additional information form) on my second application, i always have this fear of it being returned. Please with my status as application received, can it still be returned? .

for those that have theirs returned, i suggest that the resubmit with the printout of the mai/letter they received from CIO. you have nothing to loose doing that.

i believe this delay (i dont want outright return but i dont mind the delay as i submitted it to beat the deadline of this new changes)is for my good as i still have somethings to sort out

Of course you can show the amount on your Life Insurance policy ( money at your disposal). Good for you. You can encash the policy whenever you want. As far as I know there will be some penalty for breaking the policy before maturity. That part you need not mention to CIO obviously.

Recently I called CIC, they said that my application is under process (Processing starts from 6th June), and I will get 1 AOR in mid of August

But I had listent that maximum time slot for 1 AOR is 4 months but in my case according to cic representative it will be (I hope not) more then 5 months.

Hi Gavi,

I dont think that you can show life insurancy policy as a proof of funds, surely it will have some positive impact on your financials but your cash, bonds, term deposits and shares will be more counted then life insurance policy. It is my own thinking that its not acceptable as its insurance of your life and not something which you have saved by earning. I might be wrong, just have a look at the below link of proof of funds explanation.

Hi Saki and Gavi,

It is established that Gavi has enough funds for a family of 3 after deducting the liabilities.

Now, he wants to show extra funds after he lands and he wants to support it by showing his Life Insurance policy which will expire in 2012. (Gavi, please correct me if I am wrong in my analysis). You want to show more than the required amount for POF.

You have two options :

1. You break the Life Insurance and pay penalty and put the amount that you get in a Bank account and produce a statement from Bank (As I stated in my previous post).
2. You can keep the Insurance as it is and show to VO that you will have 'x' amount of money by 2012. Even though it is not readily available, you still can avail it, if need arises.
3. Is your Insurance a fixed term type or are you paying installments? If you are paying installments, then again you fall in the trap of liability. But if it was 1 time payment of 6 lacs that will mature in 2012, then you are ok.

Gavi, this is my understanding......you don't have to follow it, if you don't want to.

Hi Gavi,

Dont make it so complicated, you have more than the required amount in your bank you will be fine with it and jsut to support further show them the insurance policy as Mitali said. Dont worry you will be alrite there is no need to break you policy and pay extra charges when you can show required funds from your bank account.
