I have received my letter approving my study permit, and have housing arrangements lined up (living with friends in Saskatchewan). But I'm confused about when I can cross the border with all my things and start my temporary residence.

I saw another post where some people said three months - which would be be June for me (semester starts in September); I have the funds to cover my living expenses, so I'm good there. Does anyone have a direct link to something official I can read? Or should I call my border crossing and ask questions of them?

I am from the US and will be bringing my car and household goods with me; how detailed do my itemizations need to be? (IE - do I need to detail the title of every book, or can I say 'Books, misc'?)

Thanks!

You won't find a black and white answer. There's no site that will quote a specific rule (because there is no official rule) and calling the border won't help. Whether you are allowed in early is up to the individual CBSA officer you encounter at the border when you enter. You should be OK provided you can show that you have the additional funds required to support yourself for these extra months without working. But it's impossible for anyone to say for sure.
