Hi everyone,

I mailed my application on April 1st via Xpresspost but it never reached its destination, and Canada Post claims the package is nowhere to be found. That means I'll have to send another application. But CIC's copy of the proof of fee payment was in that package.

Is there any possible solution to this situation that doesn't involve paying again (I don't have the money, otherwise I would)? I've been trying to call CIC but lines are always so busy they don't even put me on hold. :(

I'm thinking of sending a photocopy of my client's copy along with an explanation of what happened to CIC's copy.

Have you tried to get refund from Canada Post? Last year during Easter, it took them one week to deliver my mail from Victoria to Vancouver... The customer service gave me refund of mailing postage, because nothing was lost. But in your case, you may try asking for compensation and tell them how much application fee was lost.

Thanks for the answer. I have talked to Canada Post's customer service and they only will refund the mailing cost, which isn't even CAD$ 20. :(

That will work but there may be a delay while CIC try to trace/ reconcile the payment in their system. The concern here is if the person opening your application is negligent and doesn't clearly read your letter thinks there is no payment and sends back the package as incomplete. For this reason try to pay again - borrow the money if u must e.g. Bank overdraft and ask for a refund in your letter. If this as it appears is not feasible then you have no choice but to take your chances.

Thanks for the input.

Pay again, months or quarter end you'll get a refund. The system will flag overpayment. Make a copy of the receipt before you send it! I make a copy of everything I sent to government, bank, insurance, always...
