Hi guys! How are you? First time to apply visitor visa in Canada. I am from malaysia. My cousin is inviting me to visit her in vancouver, canada. I would like to seek your assistance in filling out IMM 5257.

1. Purpose of Visit - Family visit or Tourism?
2. Indicate how long you plan to stay?
3. Funds available for my stay? Can I put all my money in bank? I have 52,000 ringgit or about 17,000 canadian dollars.

Thank you.

Hi,

1. Purpose of Visit - Family visit or Tourism?
Family visit

2. Indicate how long you plan to stay?
Only you know this :)

3. Funds available for my stay? Can I put all my money in bank? I have 52,000 ringgit or about 17,000 canadian dollars.
Do you already have CAD 17,000 in your bank account.... nothing borrowed, no last-minute deposits.... or will you deposit this CAD 17,000 shortly before applying for a TRV?

If this money has not been in your account for some months/not earned by you then you are virtually assuring yourself of a TRV refusal.

Apart from the above, do prepare a day-by-day itinerary listing tourist places you'd like to visit/activities/meet family and friends with expense estimates.... and prove that you have the finances for airfare + this itinerary.

Also, do submit evidence of strong ties (employment, property ownership or rental accommodation, family ties, previous travel history, etc)

Cheers

Hello Bryanna! Thank you for answering my inquiries. Honestly, I borrowed half of the 17,000CAD from sister last October 2015. I did not deposit one time. I deposit little by little. What do you think? Is this acceptable by the visa officer?

I had one travel history when I worked at Taiwan. My visa was stamped in my old passport. Is this acceptable?

I don't have property. What other documents should i present?

Thank you.

Hi,

You're welcome :)

The visa officer who assesses your TRV application will consider your sources of income. Unfortunately, depositing the money borrowed from your sister little-by-little will work against you..... because these amounts would not match your income + would appear borrowed just to get a TRV.

Are you employed or have a business?
Do you live with immediate family? Are they dependent on you financially or for your well-being?
How long do you intend to visit?
Do you have any compelling reasons to return to Malaysia by a specific date?

Cheers

Hi Bryanna!

Thank you for assisting me in my TRV application.

Any suggestions on the money I borrowed? Should I withdraw it?

Yes, I am currently employed and earning 3,300 ringgit monthly and 1000 ringgit monthly allowance. This is equivalent to 1500 CAD.

No. I lived with my brother and his wife. They are both working. No kids. I only share groceries. They don't let me share in other expenses like electricity and water utilities.

I had a small business but we shut down due to heavily in debt. We can't able to collect anymore to our customer who has debt with us. Actually, it is in court now.

About 24 days. That's the maximum that our company grant for vacation leave.

Thank you.

Without the money borrowed from your sister, would your savings be able to pay for airfare + approx. CAD 1000 per week of visit (this is an unofficial guide)?

Do you have any other financial investments or bank term deposits?

The visa officer will question why you want to spend considerable savings to visit Canada.

Your brother and his wife will not count as *family ties*/reason to return to Malaysia.
Do you support any immediate family? For example, do you pay for your parents expenses?

Do you have to return to Malaysia for a court hearing? Or does your lawyer represent you?

Hi Bryanna!

I think so. I search in the internet, roundtrip ticket is about 1700 CAD. Kuala Lumpur to Vancouver then Vancouver to Saskatoon.

I have stocks (3000 shares) about 700 rinngit or 230CAD in value. :)

I have variable life insurance since 2014. Paying 870 ringgit monthly or about 300 CAD. To date, the account value is 8700 ringgit or about 2958 CAD.

Can I show all these?

Sorry but what does this mean? "The visa officer will question why you want to spend considerable savings to visit Canada" My cousin will support me when I am there. He will take care of my accommodation, foods and transportation. Do I need an medical insurance? Read posted here that insurance is one of the visa officer looking at.

My brother and I support our mother's maintenance (medicine) for her hypertension but that not big. It is about 174 rinngit or 59.16 CAD per month. When I visit them in Selangor, i buy them groceries.

Actually, my other brother is the representative in court plus a lawyer of course. He was actually the one who managed the business. I am his capitalist. The business was registered under my name. But sometimes I attend hearings.

Thanks

Hi,

You must draw up a day-by-day itinerary of activities/places/friends and relatives that you would like to visit in Canada with expense estimates. You must prove that you have the liquid finances to pay for this itinerary + your airfare.

I have stocks (3000 shares) about 700 rinngit or 230CAD in value. Smiley

I have variable life insurance since 2014. Paying 870 ringgit monthly or about 300 CAD. To date, the account value is 8700 ringgit or about 2958 CAD.

Can I show all these?
Yes, do show all of these. All amounts must be stated in Ringgit and CAD

Unfortunately, none of these financial investments can help to support your Canada visit. In your case, your bank balance is the only money available.

Sorry but what does this mean? "The visa officer will question why you want to spend considerable savings to visit Canada" My cousin will support me when I am there. He will take care of my accommodation, foods and transportation.
For a TRV, the applicant must prove that s/he has her/his own money to pay for the visit/itinerary without depending on the host relative.

If you spend almost all your savings to visit Canada then this is a red flag because it means you may overstay your visit.

Sure, your cousin's invitation letter can state that s/he will take care of your accommodation/travel and meals. However, you must prove that you are financially strong and hence, are not likely to overstay your visit. Unfortunately, your salary and financial situation does not seem to be the case.

You must also include some evidence that you are related to your cousin.

IMO, you must postpone your plans to visit Canada until you save up more money + you establish stronger ties to Malaysia (for example, you buy/rent property, you enroll for a study program along with your current job, your get a salary hike/get a promotion which means your employment ties and financial situation will appear stronger, etc)

Cheers
