Applying to both CEC and the new PR pathway?

Hi!

I'm currently in a dilemma as to whether I should apply for the new PR pathway that will open on May 6 or wait for CEC. I will become eligible for CEC on May 31st. Can I apply to both of these programs?

Let's say I successfully apply to this new PR pathway as well as CEC. If I get an ITA for CEC and submit my documents, how will IRCC treat my two applications? Will they put one of the applications on hold while they are processing the other?

The reason I ask this is that we don't know how long the processing time would be for the new PR program that has been announced. It could be 6 months or take up to a year, whereas for CEC, it's approximately 6 months.

They will put the other application on hold. You should also know that a bridging work permit isn't possible with the new stream. I'd say getting a PR under 6 months is highly unlikely due to all the documents they'd have to check. EE is the safest bet.

Your second application will be on hold, so if you apply for CEC one month later and it takes 6 months to process and the new stream takes 1 year, you won't get PR until 1 year after applying. There are some ways around this as many people have applied for paper-based PNP and CEC, but considering we don't know how long the new stream will take to process applications AND the fact they don't grant BOWP is concerning, that means either they're expecting it not to take too long to process the new stream or they just don't care.

I'd wait until May 6th and then check the full eligibility and expected processing times.

I've seen very mixed comments, CICnews claims that "expected" processing times should be around 6 months (or, at least that's the goal) while some immigration lawyers are saying it'll take around 1 year (in that case, CEC is safer as you at least get a BOWP).

I personally don't know, when EE was first launched IRCC claimed it would take 6 months or less to process applications so I don't really believe IRCC doesn't have any idea on how long the new streams will take, they know perfectly which streams have a higher processing capacity and which ones have a bigger backlog so my only hope is that they take those 90k applications seriously and aim to process most May applications before next year because the eligibility stage is going to be ridiculously quick to complete compared to EE.
