Hello everyone, I applied my PR in August 31. I already received my AOR. I’m currently on study permit. Can I apply for a work permit and will I be eligible to work fulltime while they are processing my permit? I have one more semester do, I’m thinking I’ll apply work permit now and once I get PR approved I can finish my studies so I’ll have to pay only domestic tuition. My wife got laid off from her job and it is really hard for us manage expenses now. So if I can work, I can help her

Are you currently studying?

Yeah. But I’m asking cos, it’s taking so long to process work permits now. So is that possible for me to work during processing time incase the decision didn’t arrive in next few months?

Not if you’re not studying.

I think you can continue to study and work part time. Apply for OWP now.
When you get your OWP approved, then you can stop studying and work full time.

Does your sponsor has EI? Your wife can receive EI if she's laid off. It's not count as social assistant.

Yes. That’s what we are on right now. But currently the market is full, she is finding it hard for her to find a job

maybe she can try to find casual work at the time being just to bring in some income.

I tried to look into the options for applying for a Bridge Open Work Permit while being on study permit but I don't think it is permitted and allowed. Do check on that before you take that decision.
