i am sponsoring my husband who is here on a visitor visa. we included the open work permit application with his pr application. his visitor staus expires on June 23 , do we need to submit the imm 5708 application which is application to change conditons, extend stay or remain in Canada as well?

Hi Sponsorship/OWP applications should be separate and his Visa application should be separate.

By submitting the OWP app along with PR app, your husband is now on implied status, and as such doesn't need to apply to extend his visitor status.

However, some people have their OWP returned for some reason (paid incorrect fee, typo in app, IRCC error, etc). If the OWP app is returned unprocessed, and he went out of status during this time, he would then be out of status. So some people apply to extend visitor status anyways just in case, but it's entirely optional.
