Applying for IEC with a PR and OWP in processing

Hello everyone, hope you are having a great snowless December!

I have just submitted my application for Spousal Sponsorship and attached an application for OWP along with it around december 1st. Shortly after I received an invitation to apply for IEC, which I am wondering if that would get processed faster than my AIP - point being that I want to be able to work here as soon as possible.

Has anyone got some advice on this? Would it be a good or a bad idea to apply for the IEC with the PR+OWP applications already having been sent?

I am from Denmark, so don't know how that would affect processing times.

Cheers,

Louis

You don't have to wait until AIP for the OWP to be approved. Under the OWP pilot - you'll have it 2-4 months after you submit the sponsorship application.

I personally don't see the point in applying for the IEC and would just wait for the OWP. But obviously your choice.

Adding to the above... IEC probably isn't an option for you anyway. Denmark is one of the countries that requires you be living there at the time you apply. Since you're living in Canada, you'll most likely be refused.

Yeah I've been keeping a keen eye on the OWP Pilot - but you have a good point with the variable of me being in Canada... I forgot that there is a requirement of applying with a permanent address in DK, which conflicts with my in-land spousal application.

Because of the financial stress being here with no work permit puts you under, I was hoping that the IEC was a way to get a work permit faster..

Even if you qualified for the IEC, you'd still be looking at a couple of months before it's processed - plus you would have to purchase insurance (not sure you have that now) and that might be an extra expense.

Hmm.. Yeah it is definitely a gamble of if it will get approved with me being in Canada, and if so whether it would be approved before an AIP from the PR application.
Putting up the capital and the insurance wouldn't be an issue, I was just trying to gauge the risk vs benefit.

Again, the OWP isn't issued on the basis of AIP. Under the OWP pilot (which has already been extended as expected for another year), it's issued 2-4 months after your application is submitted.

Oh I wasn't aware - I misunderstood you in the beginning then. Thanks for clearing that up - I've really had some struggles finding my way through the maze of immigration laws. I am coming to the conclusion that it will be better just waiting for the OWP issued with the pilot program is better than gambling with iec.
Thank you for your insights!
