Applying for GCSM notes

Hi,

I am on visitor visa in Canada (visa exempt country). I am thinking of applying for GCSM notes....can I (principal applicant) apply myself or need to give consent to my wife (sponsor) for applying for the notes?

If are presently in Canada and can prove you are, then you can order the notes for free through the Privacy Act.

Actually a foreigner without PR status can order the notes themselves, provided they are currently in Canada.

How do I prove that I am in Canada? I don't have any visa/stamp on my passport as I am from a visa exempt country

When you entered the country did they not stamp the entry and write a date you must leave by?

Do you have any recent mail/bills that show a Canadian address?

Yes.

You will need to fill out IMM5744 which is a consent form for the IRCC to release your information to him.

You will enter your information in Section A, his in Section C, I advise you check "email" as the format to receive the notes, and then you will print, sign, scan and send the form to your husband.

He will order the notes under the Access to Information Act and will be required to pay $5 with a valid credit card.

I actually just read your post again and noticed he is in Columbia.

I am not sure if that is possible, and I am sorry to have posted that it is.

However, if he is a Canadian Citizen with a Canadian address and is just on a short visit, I am sure you won't be asked for proof of him being in Canada.

Alternately, you can have someone else in Canada order the notes for you if that helps.

He is coming to visit for two months (arrives on Wednesday), I could ask his sister to do me the favor while he is here because he is not to tech-savy and hates doing paper work.

It is an online application that involves no paperwork other than you emailing him the scanned and signed consent form. If he is still currently in Canada he can apply for them now before he leaves and he will have them sent to his email address, and therefore receive them while with you on his visit.

Then he was supposed to take off only one month for vacation but thankfully he was called for a new job and starts at the beginning of August so let's say timing was just right. A little sacrifice in January is paying off right now.

That sucks. I've seen my wife twice since December. Took her to Bali at the end of March. Still miss her and want to spend more time together. I still have two weeks of vacation time but I'm waiting to see what happens with the eligibility before I plan my next trip. I'm currently working two jobs and I work an average of 75-80 hours a week so it's nice to have vacation lol.
