Happy New Year, everyone!

Being new Canadians, my family and I will be applying for new Canadian passports, for the first time.

We would immensely appreciate if anyone could kindly assist us in getting some confusions clarified.

1. My G driver's license expired last month. But, as we know, the Ontario Gov't extended the validity of expired licenses until further notice. That is why, when I check the validity of it online it says "valid" but it does not show the expiry date. The passport form mentions that the ID must be valid and also asks for the expiry date. I am not clear about how to show that my license is indeed valid. All I have is the imprinted expiry date on the plastic card. :(

2. We need to submit 3 applications (2 adults and 1 minor). Due to pandemic, we won't do that in-person. We will mail the applications. Can we put them all in the same envelope?

3. Can references also act as emergency contacts?

Have a wonderful first day of 2021! ------ mcgyver

If your ID is expired and you can’t renew it due to COVID-19
If your expired ID meets the requirements, we’ll accept it as proof of your identity if the province, territory or state that issued it has temporarily extended its validity.

However, this doesn’t apply to Canadian passports. You can’t use your passport as proof of your identity if it’s been expired for more than 1 year.

Wow, Streetman, you've surely put an end to my confusion on the ID validity!! Thanks!

Any idea if I could place all 3 applications in a single envelope?

Finally, 3 new passports are on the way to me. They processed my applications in Victoria, BC, even though I had sent the apps to Gatineau, QC. They called me about the my expired driving license which in fact is still valid because the Ontario Gov't indefinitely extended the validity. So, I had taken a printout from the Government's website from where anyone could get a copy of the current validity of a driver's license. I attached that to my application since the plastic card has the old validity still imprinted on it. I explained when they called and then they let me know that the passports would reach me in 2 weeks! Thanks everyone for the help.
