Hi there,

I want to apply for one of several master's programs at universities in Canada, however I need to obtain six prerequisite classes before I am able to apply. I already have a university degree from an American institution in a different field.

It seems like one of the best ways to do this would be to enroll in a general studies diploma at a Canadian university that offers the necessary prerequisites as the general studies diplomas give a lot of leeway in which courses I can pick. However, I have no desire to complete the full diploma once I obtain the necessary prerequisites.

My question is this: If I am in Canada on a 1 or 2 year study permit for a general studies diploma, could I transfer into the master's program as soon as I am accepted without completing the diploma on my study permit? If so, would I just need to file a change to my DLI?

Thanks so much in advance!

You are asking a very specific question that only an admissions officer of a program could answer

Thanks for the reply! I'm not worried about the admissions side of things. I'm more curious if there are consequences to not completing the degree the study permit was generated for and moving straight on to the next degree 6 or 8 months after moving to Canada.
