Hi,
I am eligible to apply under NOC '2171 Information systems analysts and consultants'. Should I apply now or wait until the new Express entry next year? What are the advantages/disadvantages of applying now? Thanks.

How long do you think it will take you to prepare the application and submit it for 2171?

I have never applied so I am unsure how long it would take. Do you have any idea how long it typically takes to complete? Thanks.

That totally varies on a case by case basis. There are no fixed time lines.

Please visit CIC's FSW segment on their website. Download the document checklist and estimate your time lines.

I don't think filling out and submitting an application form will take that long. My question was if I should apply with the current system or the express entry system.

I don't see there is any harm applying now and when the express entry is open. What do you all think?

It seems you haven't checked all the documents that need to be submitted with the application. It is not simply filling out forms. There are documents to gather and verified, tests to take and such. So, if you haven't started with any of those, it will take 2-4 months to get everything together.

BUT, if 2171 quota has not been filled by the time you are prepared to apply, then it is still worth applying NOW. The biggest reason is 2015 express entry is still an unknown. And the one thing we know for sure is that it will be harder to qualify with the new process. Under the current system, if you fulfill the minimum requirements and are under the quota, your chances of getting the PR are very good. In the new system, you will have to compete with other applicants (not yet disclosed how the applicants are ranked) and will be invited to apply only under certain conditions. So basically, fulfilling minimum requirement is not enough.

Check the following link for all the requirements for the current system:

I again go back to my original question: "How long do you think it will take you to prepare the application and submit it for 2171?".

Before you answer it, make sure you have gone thoroughly through the Document Checklist.
