Hi,
I have applied to sponsor my mother coming to Canada as permanent residence. The process will take up to 4, 5 years. In the mean time, I applied a visitor visa for her and she get 6 months to stay in Canada. I have some questions that is it possible to extending her vistor visa many times? I heard you can only extend it once. The truth is i'm the only kid and I would love to have her here with me so I can take care of her. she has noone else back in the country. So is it possible to extend the visa as many time as we want and just have to go back the country once the process of PR almost done? Thanks alot!

You can ask/apply for extension but I doubt that she'll be allowed to stay here the entire 4 or 5 years while the PR is in process.

I'm the only kid as well and my father passed away. But I'm not a PR yet; hopefully will get it by the end of 2011. And after that, I will plan to get my mom here like you.

You mentioned "I applied a visitor visa for her and she get 6 months to stay in Canada" in your post. How did you apply for her? I thought that everybody applies for himself/herself; you can only support/sponsor/invite or something.

It is very hard to say how long she will be able to stay in Canada. I was able to stay on a Visitor Visa for 3 years before I got my PR. After she gets her initial Visitor Visa, you can apply for an extension before it expires. Every situation is different. And who knows maybe it won't take 5 years for her PR to go through. It is important that she can show proof of funds for the duration of her stay. It seemed that CIC was mainly concerned with my ability to support myself while I was here in Canada.
