Apply for TRV under Implied status

Hello everyone,

I applied for a PGWP on Feb 11, 2016. My TRV expired on Dec 30, 2015. HOwever, my renewed study permit is valid till July, 2016.

I was wondering if I can apply for a TRV based on my study permit, even though I have applied for a PGWP. I have a conference coming up in the USA in April and I am not sure if I will receive my PGWP before that can can apply for a visa.

If anyone has done a similar things, it would be really helpful if you share your experience.

I believe you can go to the US just with your student visa. You don't need a TRV to come back to Canada from the US. I am not sure if that rule applies only if you are driving, though.
