Hi everyone,
I am an international student currently living in Canada on a study permit. I just finished my undergraduate program and applied and got into a Masters program. So naturally, I applied for an extension of my study permit. Along with my application, I submitted a brief letter of explanation as to why I wanted to extend my study permit (and to also explain why I didn't work during the period of my undergraduate program). In the letter, I mentioned hoping to continue my education into a PhD and work in Canada. Would this be seen as an issue and is it grounds for having my extension rejected?
I have included the exact letter I typed below and would truly appreciate any advice you have. Thank you!
The letter I submitted
I am writing this letter to explain my reasoning behind wanting to continue my higher education at a Canadian institution. During my time as an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto, Scarborough I had exposure to multiple areas of Canadian society. I had access to a wide range of resources that assisted me in completing my bachelor’s degree with ease. Additionally, I was given numerous opportunities to become involved in the community in projects that I was passionate about, and this allowed me to develop a sense of commitment and truly appreciate being a part of Canada’s immigrant population. Furthermore, my interest in the public health field was also partly driven by observing the Canadian medical efforts made during the COVID-19 pandemic as an immigrant and realizing Canada could help me in realizing my goal of becoming a part of the global healthcare system. I hope to use the knowledge and connections gained from studying at McMaster University to continue my education into a Ph.D. and then either become part of the public health sector or work with organizations such as Canadian Association for Global Health (CAGH).
