I also want to bring 1-2 new cars, selling my old cars. But how can we declare the VIN ( Vehicle Identification Numbers) of new cars without owning them yet? My PPs are with Buffalo VO and I am planning for landing in August ( before my MR expire in Sept) and then come back , finish my remaining H1 period until next April 2012 and then take those new cars in April 2012.

Hi shar533,
I think that will be a big problem and we are in the same boat :D. We won't know the VIN if we don't buy it before landing. And we have one and only chance. I'm looking on Craigslist to sell and buy another car at the same time and it's not easy at all, along with filling out the list goods to follow...

SD & shar,

You cannot bring in anything which you have not declared on the list. And as for the car, they not only noted my VIN number but asked for a copy of the title. So I dont think you can get cars which you buy after landing!!!

Great Jang ! Congrats for the smooth landing. I am in the same boat. So were you able to apply for PR cards at the same day. what did you say when they asked about how long you are planning to stay in Canada ? What address have you give for the PR cards.

Hi PND,

My immigration officer did not ask about how long my stay would be, just the address where the cards need to be sent. He took that address and filled in the PR card application himself. I was also worried about that part, but I guess it just depends on the office you come across the day you land.

All,

I did my landing last week at Coutts, AB and wanted to update you all about the process. It was smooth. We flew in to Montana and drove from there to cross the border in a rental car. The lady at the check post asked a few questions like why are you here, is this your car, do you have money more than 10k and then asked us to pull in to the parking lot and contact immigrations inside the building.

The immigration guy was also friendly and filled in all the necessary paper work, he did not ask many questions. After stapling the COPR copy to our passports, he directed us to the customs counter.

Here we declared all the items we carried, items to follow (a pre prepared list with value of each will help you a lot), money carried (we took a USD cashier's check). Everything went on smooth. After everything we made a U turn and entered back in to US.

I thank each and everyone in this forum for helping us and answering every question I posted. I wish good luck to all waiting for good news in their qwest to becoming a Canadian.

C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S Jang and wish you best of luck for your new future in Canada.
I have one question.... Did you utilize "Automatic Visa Revalidation" to return to US ? I am planning to drive on June11,2011 from Buffalo to Toronto and will be back to US with in a week . Appreciate your reply.

Thanks

Karsatjaya, I used AVR last month when I went to Vancouver for 4 days and there was no problem. CBP officer just needed my PP and I-797 and gave me new I-94.

That's great Shar533 and thanks for your immediate response. Did you remember what are the documents you carried and if possible could you please send me the correct link to AVR.

Thanks

Karsatjaya, now that you asked me I tell you in detail. Actually I thank this forum that I heard about AVR 1st time. My 6 year stay was expiring on 12th May and my LC was going to be more than 365 older on 14th May. So the only option for me was to go out of country for at least 2 days. Only thing I knew was that I shall have to go back to my country of origin to get visa stamping again and that wouldn't have been easier. Time was ticking away and the long wait for PPR was adding to my problems. Suddenly on 13th April I saw on this thread some1 talking about AVR which I googled it and found all answers to my problems. 1st I applied for visa from Mexican Consulate office which they refused , due a funny reason that I have less than 1 month stay left in US. Then I went to LA to get Canadian Visitor Visa which I got without any problem. I printed all material about AVR / 30 day rule and also I emailed CBP official and got reply from some guy named Cris that I should be fine. I did carry other papers such as job letter etc. So when I went outside US to Vancouver, no1 asked for my old I-94. But after 4 days when I was coming back, at Vancouver airport , CBP officer asked for my old expired passport, new passport, I-797 and new I-94 filled up. He was just wandering why no1 took my old I-94 card from my old passport . Then after thinking for a min, he took out old I-94 from my expired passport and stapled new I-94 on my new Passport. Thats it. He didnt cross check anything. All I told him was that I am using AVR for this visit. He said no problem, you still have another 2 weeks to stay in US. So that s fine.
Hoipe this helps

Thanks guys ! I will be also using the AVR this weekend and will share the experience. Regarding the PR card fee, how did you pay it at the port of entry ? Have you prepaid it online or paid at the port of entry itself.

Hi all

Does anybody know whether the 17-month processing time consider the whole process or only the buffalo process?

Best

I don't think that we have to pay any other fee at this point finishing the whole process. Let us know your experience this weekends then
And check these links if you're landing "on foot"

Thanks Smallduck ... Can someone confirm for sure that there is no fees to pay while entering through road for PR cards. In the website it is asking to pay $50 online per person ?
