below are the answers to ur queries

- educational certificates - college marksgraduation certificates for B.Tech (India) and M.S (USA): are just copies
enough or do I need to notarize them? no need to notarize,just the copies are enough
- professional certification (USA) - do I need to notarize it? no need to notarize,only copies
- birth certificate (India) - it is in English,but do I need to notarize it? If it's in English,no need to
notarize,copies are enough

By the way, I applied in NS in Jan 2010 and Buffalo sent us the file number in May 2010...Last April 2011, our status changed to "in process", how long normally does it take before we receive a letter for medical? Please share your thoughts.

Hi larxace, welcome to the thread!

we are on the same boat, my Initial application to NS was in January 2010, then transferred to Buffalo March, 2010. In process from mid-March 2011. When I ordered CAIPS my BF'D was April 14, 2011 but I haven't got any Med request yet and still patiently waiting... anyways the trend in Buffalo nowadays is USUALLY it will take 6months after each BF'Ds... so I am expecting something by October or earlier than that for the next progress...

Bare in mind that it's a case to case basis, and it highly depends on the Immigration officer who is handling your file, If he/she think you don't have to undergo a deep background and security check then you will have your MR and PPR earlier than the other applicants.

Just stay positive and hope for the best!

Thanks for your quick response...we are exactly on the same timeline...by the way, what do you mean by CAIPS, AOR and BF'D, sorry not familiar with the short cuts...
Our only concern is that we are in Canada right now and our visa will expire in Feb 2012, not sure if we will complete the process before our visa expires...Are you in Canada or in US?
As per Buffalo's processing times in the website, 17 months to complete so we are now on our 12 month leaving us 5 months for meds, passport and visa stamping, you think this is exactly what we can hope for?

This definitely is a positive sign for Buffalo applicants whoever has done their Medicals around July,Aug,Sep,2010 and awaiting PPR.I think next will be MR's,there is a possibility of MR's from June or July2011.

I m seeing garian4u got MR, PPR, and visa issued in Oct 2010, everything done for him in exactly 1 yr. You filed exactly after 2 months and you haven't got MR yet. I filed in Jan, 2010 under 0123 category from Buffalo, and got 2nd AOR in Nov, 2010, still waiting for Medical Request. Wondering why I didn't sent my application just 3 months earlier
Its so frustrating. Hope God listens to our prayer & Buffalo speeds up the process.

I am in Canada right now and I just got my new work permit last week. I was also expecting before that I don't need to renew my work permit coz I submitted my PR application more than a year before my old one expires but Buffalo slows down a lot from late 2010 so I end up renewing my work permit. you still have 9 months to go anyways before the expiry of your WP but I would suggest to start working out towards extending it 4 months before it will expire granted you never heard anything from Buffalo coz its hard to rely on their processing time...

Anyways, here are the answers to your queries:

CAIPS, for the uninitiated, stands for Computer Assisted Immigration Processing System, the software used by Citizenship and Immigration Canada and Canadian diplomatic missions to track visa applications.

BF'D- bring forward date of your file, which is relevant info that you will get once you ordered CAIPS. This BF'Ds are the dates where the officer will check your file for further processing.

AOR- Acknowledgement of the Receipt, the letter you got from Buffalo saying that they received your full documents.

Thanks for explaining all those terms, really helped a lot...in case we received our Meds request and our WP is about to expire, should we still renew our WP? 9 months seem so short in terms of allowable stay in Canada...and yes I agree with you, I better be planning of renewing our WP 6 months before expiry...it seems that Buffalo is so slow these days, better be ready than be sorry...I have my 2 kids here and they are both in school so can't risk at all...can't do anything right now but to hope and pray...

I agree with u,this wait is really frustrating and even I did some comparisons before and some times thought the same like u,"I should have applied 4 months earlier" . when our file got transferred to LA on Oct13,2010, I thought everything will be positively finalised by 3 months ,coz that was how things were moving in LA during July,Aug,Sept,2010.But never heard anything from them for 6 months.now quiet relaxed since the status changed to 'inprocess' on April 19,2011 .hope will receive MR by june/july 2011.
sometimes I pity the pre-feb2008 applicants,hope they too will get their cases positively finalised by this year.wondering how they are manging this long wait.May God helps all of us to successfully complete this process at the earliest.Amen!
