Guys I am in a big trouble. I sent my wife's medical exam form via USPS Express mail to my home country and it seems that it has been lost. No change of status for the last 4 days since it was departed from US. There is still a chance that It could be tracked but in case if not... then what options I do have? I have a scanned copy of her medical req. form.. Plz advise urgently...

I do not think it is lost, it just needs time to be delivered.

Anyway, "me2land" a memeber of this forum sent the medical request (scanned copy) to his wife from the united states to his country of nationality, and it was accepted by the DMP and Ottawa. He got the visas with no problems later from Buffalo.

Just to add to what Pro1 said I had a similar situation recently. My wife & kids are back home and when I got the medical rqst I just scanned their photo pages and sent them through email. It saved me time and a $100 fedex. Their DMP send their medical to Ottawa and got there 3 days before mine did. I did not send any receipts and the process went pretty smooth.

If you wanna send him a personal message to ask him.

Following is the link where he explained how he sent the scanned copy to his wife:

Most probably it will be caught up with customs dept of the home country. Once the express mail leaves US, then the status update doesn't happen regularly, it may work like the normal mail. Normally Express mail is tied up to the destination country's express mail service. For example, in India it is delivered by Speedpost service of mail dept.

So send an email to USPS asking for status update, they may respond.

Hi beauhoe,

As long as you talked to them directly, and they said everything is ok, that is fine.

By the way, how long did it take to receive your OHIP card ?

Good luck.
Got my health insurance card yesterday and the PR card today.
Cheers,

Passport needs 1-yr validity before you send it for stamping. Take care of this right now so you don't lost the days spent in renewing passport after getting the PPR.
Is this really true? I mean is this information published somewhere in CIC site, or forms, etc? Or you just know by experience? If I get PPR, I will probably fall under the same situation. My guess is that I will have about 9 months left before my passport expires.

Can others weigh in on this?

He just gave you the link of NY visa office which states clearly that the passport should be valid for at least one year from the date of doing the medical test, not the date of sending the passport for visa stamping:

"Immigrants

Approved Applicants for Permanent Residence

Submissions of passports are only accepted by mail. Passports are returned by mail within 30 business days. This does not include mailing time.

For mailing instructions, please click here.

Additional Important Information:

Check that your passport and each accompanying dependents' passport are valid at least one year from the date of your immigration medical examination.

Make sure there is at least one completely blank page, other than the last page in each passport. If dependent children are included in their parent's passport, an additional blank page should be available for each included dependent."

The link:

http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/new_york/imm/general_info-rens_generaux.aspx?lang=eng&menu_id=206&menu=L

Scroll down and read under "Immigrants" paragraph.

Thanks for the information. I had not noticed the reply just after the first reply to my post.

My file is currently with Buffalo consulate and not NY. I checked their site and tried to navigate to a similar page, but it does not clearly state the same (1 yr from the date of Medical).

Also, I heard that the visa itself is valid for 1 yr from the date of medical, is that true? If it is, then it makes sense that they need to have the passport valid for at least the same time period.

Usually they ask that the passport should be valid for at least 6 months from the date of the passport request letter.

In my case, the PR visa was not for one year, it was for 8 months which is one year from the date of doing my medicals. They took 4 months after medicals to send me the PPR which took away 4 months of the validity of my PR visa. The expiry date was the same day exactly as the date of doing my medicals (for the next year).

However, sometimes there are exceptions to the rules (for unknown reasons):

"Maple" is a member of this forum, and his medicals were expired on April, 2009, and he got his PPR on July, 2010 (without request to re do his medicals), and they issued his visa for 1 year, his visa office is Buffalo itself.

The delay was because of his background check.

He was living in canada as an international student, and changed to a visitor at the end.

This is his profile:

I talked to DMPs of my country. They clearly told me that they have instructions not to do medicals without original med request. What are the steps to request for a duplicate medical form? I am not confident about getting that document.... thats how it works there sometimes!!! :'(

Just wait for one more week, if the forms do not get delivered to your wife, send her a scanned copy and tell her to go directly to any DMP to do the medicals. Some people proceed to the medicals without request, so for the DMP saying he has instructions not to do so does not make any sense.

Just tell him, all you have to do is proceed to the test, get your fees, and send it to Ottawa, whether Ottawa accept it or not, it is not his business.

All he cares about, is getting his fees paid, and that is it.

If that DMP is very dumb, try another one, i am sure you have many of them in your country.

Hello there!
Thanks for sharing this. My friend has applied as a registered nurse and her timeline is very simple:
02/2010, sent appl. to Sydney, NS
03/2010, got AOR
04/2010, got approval from NS
06/04/2010, sent full appl. to Buffalo
still waiting for the 2nd AOR

Based on your experience, she should get the 2nd AOR in this month. We will see.

Thanks!
