I am a student from Malaysia who is currently studying in Canada and am currently applying for temporary residence within Canada.

I'm currently filling out form IMM 5257b and there's a section called previous travel. The thing is, I've went from Malaysia to Singapore and back for leisure and shopping so many times that I have lost count, each visit lasted less than a day My current passport only contains the visits I made since 2017 and the section requires me to give details on my visits to "...any country or territory other than the country of your citizenship or your current country or territory of residence".

Do I have to dig up all the records of my visit to Singapore and back during the past 5 years? Or do I do something else?

Thank you

Are you sure you are applying with the right form? Being a student, you should already have a TRV visa.

To answer your question, yes you will need to write every trip you have made in the past 5 years. You can add more rows in the form, you will have to use your passport and see the stamps. Hopefully, you have your old passport for the historical data.

Well, I'm trying to renew my TRV so I was directed to the IMM 5257b form. What happens if I do not have my old passport?

Also, if I had done multiple visits in a single month, do I have to record each visit individually? Or can I just assume the putting in "Year-Month" is enough to cover every visit made in that month?

OK, I got the problem. You are supposed to use 5257e, not 5257b. 5257b is only required if you say yes to a set of questions in 5257e.

Both my study permit and my TRV are valid, I'm just trying to renew them before I leave Canada. They both will expire on August 30 2019

Also, what's the difference between 5257E and 5257B?

5257E is the main form, this is what you should be using.

5257B is required If you were part of a military organization ( excluding national service ). You were part of a political party associates with extremism, or you have a criminal record.

Oh
Oh
Thank you so much for telling me this!

That is why they are asking a lot of details in that form. If you don't fall in that category, then you can disregard the 5257B.

For future reference, any IRCC document will have two main endings. XXXXE stands for the English version of the document and XXXXF will stand for the French version of the document. Anything other than those ending with E or F are most likely a supplementary document.

Gotcha, thanks again!
