I applied under the PhD stream and my application was received on September 18, 2014. I received an email today from CPC-Ottawa requesting evidence of settlement funds of $14,720 (for a family of 2). I am in my third year in the PhD program and I still have about two more years before graduation. I earn about $15,000 per annum as a TA plus an annual scholarship of about $10,000. My wife works full time and she earns about $16,000 per annum. Our bank statements do not have a total balance of $14,720 as being requested but I have letters of employment and scholarship letters attesting to our sources of income. Does that mean we need to have a minimum balance of $14,720 in our bank accounts as requested or will these letters of employment and scholarship suffice? Please advise. Thank you.

Hi ododo,

Unfortunately you have to show them that you have at least that balance in your account. My understanding is that you should keep this money in your account while your application is being processed. At the end they might ask again for your bank statements, even when you are landing, officials could ask for proof of funds.. Other senior members could confirm this.

Have you been charged or received PER or MR request?

Thank you for your response. The application was received on September 18, 2014. Credit Card was charged on December 10 and an email was sent on January 5 notifying me that my application has received a positive determination of eligibility to be processed and that they will contact me if aaan additional document is required. So today (March 5), I received the request for updated evidence of settlement funds.

I think I submitted on September 15 or so but it was received at CIC on September 18.

So you haven't got MR yet?
Based on the past experience in this forum, you have to show the minimum balance in your account no matter what.

If they ask you to show settlement funds, you need to show 6 months bank statements showing $14,720 balance.

If they ask you to show the evidence that how did you get these money, then you should get the documented proofs to support yourself.
