Hi everyone,

My university put this line in my employment letter:

''xxx is the recipient of the xxxx Engineering Doctoral Award of xxxx$ per annum. ''

And I saw in the forum that people usually write something like this:

''Mr. X receives funding in the minimum amount of $Y (including benefits) per year for his work as a Research Assistant (RA) and Teaching Assistant (TA).''

So what do you think? is it a big problem? should I send another letter? If I do so, and write the second statement in my letter, will they accuse me for misrepresentation?!

I paid 1100 :(. If I withdraw my application, would they return my documents? I hope since they made the mistake, thye would be more helpful, and at least return my documents as it costs a lot to prepare them.

Ya, that hurts. If your first application goes through (which is what you want and is the best case scenario), then you will definitely lose the 1,100 (no other way around this). Once you get your visa from your first application, it's probably not a bad idea to ask them back for at least the documents (not the money though, but you should always try), but they will just as easily say that, if you're so certain that they made a mistake, why bother applying the second time :(

Hi nima2000, nobody here will be able to give you the correct answer on this one. My funding too comes from many different sources, and one of them was called international doctoral student award (those from University of Waterloo would know this), which was used to cover the tuition differential between international and local students. On my reference letter, I only included the teaching and the research portions of my funding, since these are the parts that directly relate to my research and teaching activities (all others being extra).

My suggestion to others has always been to isolate only the teaching and the research parts of your funding, and make those your source of incomes, so now, can you tell us what exactly 'Engineering Doctoral Award' compensates? Is it some external scholarship (not necessarily related to research and teaching)? Or is it dispersed specifically for you to conduct research and teaching activities?

Yeah, I agree with this.

I initially thought that they would explicitly mention that you would need to be enrolled full-time for at least two years in a PhD study. To my surprise, they said no such things, so it's better safe than sorry (and do NOT modify the template or the wording from their example of letter of attestation; even though it should technically not change anything, we never know).

I will try to look into OP6C later.

I got a letter from office of the registrar as a proof of previous study. The letter is as follows:

This is to confirm that the above student has been enrolled as a full time student since September 2009 and has maintained good academic standing while working toward his degree requirements for PhD.

Do you think this is good enough for proof of previous study in Canada?

I re-applied again on May 1. They took the money on May 7. But still I did not receive my PER.
Does anybody know how can I contact them about this?
Where should I send email? Sidnay ok Ottawa?

Hi Hooman2012, Have you received your file number or PER for the second application?

Hi guys,
I got document request today by FA01772. They asked for proof of fund. I am out of Canada now and I will be back 2 weeks later. Do you think it would be fine sending proof of fund by getting the account activity on line from my bank account and sending them by email and 2 weeks later getting the account activity from the bank (sealed by bank) and sending by mail?
Thanks,

In my opinion (which is not an expert's opinion), this is good enough (though it's probably better to mention "a full-time PhD student"; not a big deal though). I'm assuming you will have a different letter for letter of attestation (the one that actually follows their template verbatim, word by word), right?

There is never a requirement to send POF by mail. Scanned copies and email should be fine, though there have been indications that it would take a bit longer for them to attach anything that comes through email to your file. So you can do what you just said there, send them POF by email, and send them again by mail two weeks later. Make sure that your attachment won't get above 5 MB though. And congratulations :) POF request from FA01772 usually means you have passed selection factor :)

I don't think he has. It's that time of the year that Sydney has become slow yet again. Maybe give it another week or two.

Yes, for the attestation letter I am using their template available through http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/pdf/PhD_Attestation_EN.pdf

Your email might have woke them up. Besides order GCMS notes as soon as possible. Quote the standard processing times in your mail to ask them. Or maybe your security, criminality etc have still not come back. Just probable guesses.

Thanks a lot, man. I have already ordered my GCMS notes last week. So far I have nothing to do but wait.

People who applied in May have already received MR or document request, however, I have not been contacted yet while I applied in March!

It is so weird. I applied way before them. But I still did not get the MR yet!!!!

Hey all,
In my CAIPS notes, I realized that I got points for only 2 years experience, whereas I have submitted 4 years. It was a combination of 2+1 year before PhD and 1 year RA/TA. I'm guessing that in the initial assessment they have not accepted the letter for the 2 year one. Fortunately I still have enough points even without that (73 points). Now do you guys think it is wise to send another more detailed letter for that 2 year experience just based on this guess or wait? It is hard to get that letter again from my employer back home, that's why I'm hesitant; and I'm not even sure if this is the case...
Thanks!

If I were you, I'd send a supplementary letter. What if Ottawa guys were not satisfied also with the other two years, then your file will be rejected, so send them another letter to be on the safe side.

Got a reply from cpp o stating that the documents I submitted regarding the proof of funds were received by them. This was pursuant to my email enquiry a week ago. I had not scanned them since that was too much work and just xpress posted it.Have also submitted a supplemental reference letter alongwith some ta contracts, more pay slips (my original application had pay slips for the past one and half years), t4s and a list of my publications. I would give them a few more weeks before I send in a fresh enquiry......

the DOC request date for Marmar20 is not right, I think. it should be today, right?
